A Letter to My Parents

This is to you, mum and dad.

It's not often that we really thank our parents for everything we do and are, expect for Mothers Day and Fathers Day, but we never truly say thank you and really mean it.

So thank you - for everything you do.

You bring us into the world and you bring us up. You teach us things to help live the best life we can. To me, that's a pretty important job and maybe the hardest too?

We grow up and become who we are because of you. We look like you and notice similar traits we learnt and took from you.

Ever since Davy and I were kids, you've taught us what I like to think of as the right way in life. You made me realise that if we ever wanted something, we should not only go for it but we should work hard to achieve and get it. Because life is all about working hard for what you want and appreciating it. We begin to value things so much more the further we grow and that if we put our mind to it, we can do it.

You've let us find our own paths in life, whether it's what you imagined for our future or not, you've always supported our decisions in our lives.

You've given us courage when we felt we lacked it and couldn't believe in ourselves. You've always supported us and offered advice whenever we felt unsure on our choices. You've given us reassurance when we've doubted things and ourselves. But mostly, you've given us love - in everything we've done and will continue to do.

We've had times that have tested us all, like many other families, but when you look back on these moments I've realised that they've only brought us closer - for the better. I didn't realise, until now, just how strong both of you are.

We've learnt that whatever happens, happens for a reason and the best way to deal with it is to take things with a pinch of salt. You deal with things calmly and consider all options, you've made me realise that life is incredibly precious and to tell yourself that you're still here which is the most important thing.

What makes me most proud is to call you my parents.

Your kindness, your humour, and your warmth. Your appreciation and gratefulness for everyday. Your love and devotion, your motivational attitude and your pride in everything. Even when things get tough. It is such an incredible thing.

You both inspire me in more ways imaginable, as individuals and as a couple.

No matter how many times I tell you I love you, tell you that you're both the best parents I could ask for, you will never truly realise just how much I mean it.

I love you, always.
